Today I am really missing Ireland. Actually, I miss it just about everyday, but today I was reminded of the awesome time Michael and I had there this past summer. Seriously, if you ever get the change to go, take it! I can't wait to go back and ask hubby at least once a week when we can go back. :)

I've been lacking in things to write lately, so much has happened in the last month, yet not much I really care to share or talk about in the blog world. I'm not really sure why, but none of it really seems blog worthy.

I know I made my new years resolution to take a pic everyday, and I have, but I haven't uploaded any since day 5. On day 7 we found out that my grandfather, Pop, had passed away. He had been sick for a couple of months, but we weren't really expecting it to happen so soon.
Ever since we got back from the funeral, it just didn't seem right to go on like nothing had happened and blog about having a long day at the office or the fact that our all time favorite show, 24, was back on. It just kind of put things in a different perspective, not that life doesn't go on, but just to enjoy it more than choose to complain about anything and everything.

Enough of my rambling, on to the title of this post...my boss sent the below link out to our team on Monday morning she said this article would really hit hard and man was she right. Day 5: Spreading the LUV

For those of you that don't know, Southwest is pretty well known for being a fun luving company. We are also very involved in each other's lives, so when you hear someone refer to us as the Southwest family, they mean it.

One of the things that is honestly required is to celebrate milestones in coworkers lives; this can be birthdays, anniversaries, babies, a new car, you name it! Well some of you may remember my blog last year about spreading Christmas cheer in a coworkers cube. This is one example of our luv!

Tomorrow is a good friend and coworkers birthday and to celebrate with him we trashed (i mean decorated) his cube. How do you think it turned out?

Michael and I got a Bed Bath & Beyond giftcard for Christmas and we are in desperate need of new pillows, so I convinced him to go shopping for them today. As I am looking at pillows I turn around and see this:

Such a dork, but I love him! He said it's the only way to tell if it's comfortable! :) No new pillows for us yet, I think we decided to save a little $ and go back and get the tempur-pedic pillows.

17 months

until Michael graduates medical school! How in the world are we only 17 months away from his graduation date? Don't get me wrong, I'm pumped that he's so close to being done, but man time is flying! It really feels like we found out he got into UT Southwestern's program yesterday and now all we talk about is where we want to be for Residency.

Currently Michael is halfway through his 3rd year and has done rotations in Internal Med, Pyschology, and OB/Gyn. Let me just tell how akward that last rotation was! :)

Next on the list is Pediatrics, Family Med, Neurology, and Surgery and then he will be starting his 4th year.

I'm so incredibly proud of my wonderful hubby and all his hard work! The next year is going to be a big deciding year for where we want to spend the next who knows how many years.

New Year's Resolutions

After dinner tonight Michael and I were talking about our 2010 resolutions and things we wanted to accomplish this year. Every year I complain about not having enough (or any for that matter) pictures of things we did during the year. My excuse in the past has always been about how "horrible" my camera is, but that cannot be my excuse anymore because this was my Christmas gift:

Yep, my wonderful hubby, parents, and in laws all chipped in and got me the Nikon d3000! I absolutely love it. I'm still learning how to use a fancy camera, but I can already tell I'm going to have a lot of fun learning.

So, to help keep me on track with my resolution, I'm going to attempt to do the 365 days of photos. I have a couple of friends who did this last year and now I want to try. This will also help me update the blog more than 4 times a year! :)

To kick things off here is a picture I took tonight of one of my favorite places in Dallas during the holidays. This is Highland Park Village and tomorrow all these beautiful lights will be taken down. Isn't it gorgeous? Sad it's already time to take down all the holiday decor.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't blogged since April. I just haven't been much in a blogging mood lately nor had the time honestly, but I'm back and ready to catch the blog world up on what the Carter's been up to for the last couple of months.

First things first... we are now dog owners! We adopted Bauer from the McKinney SPCA back in April. For those of you who don't know, Michael has been begging for a dog since we got married and I decided to surprise him with Bauer for our 2 year anniversary.

We were told he is a lab/boxer mix, but who knows. This photo was from the day I adopted him. My sister came with me to pick him out. Isn't he adorable?!

The pictures above are from the first week we had him. I can't believe he was ever that small. Here he is now...

Bauer has been so much fun to have around, especially now that Michael is on call several nights a week even if he's a little bit over protective sometimes. He is also a very smart puppy, although he has his occassional blonde moments. :)

Today we celebrated Britney's 24th birthday with a bowling party. Back in the day, she was the youth champion in the state of Arkansas, and man did she make us look like amateurs!

But, I have to say, Wii bowling has been really good for my game. I got my highest score ever today and beat my hubby by 1 point! :)

Making Up for Lost Time

Growing up, music wasn't a big part of my life. I grew up in a small east Texas town where my mom was the children's minister at our hometown southern baptist church...so I'll let you guess what kind of music I grew up on. If you guessed Michael W. Smith, Point of Grace, and Stephen Curtis Chapman, then you guessed right. I'm not knocking christian music, I still like it, but I just didn't experience many other genres.

Don't get me wrong, my friends in elementary school taught me how to belt out some New Kids on the Block with the best of them and dad taught me to love John Denver, but beyond that my exposure to music wasn't particularly broad. Then I met my amazing hubby, and he has introduced me to music that I probably wouldn't have listened to otherwise. My two personal favorites are Marc Broussard and Jonny Lang. We recently got the chance to go to both their concerts and I can honestly say they blew me away. By far the best concerts I have ever been to in my life, especially Marc Broussard! Last week, the Southwest Airline's Marketing Department packed up and left for a 3 day Annual Marketing Meeting in San Diego. Every year our whole dept. gets together to learn/set our goals for the upcoming year, rekindle friendships, and get energized for the year ahead. It is always a wonderful time and this year was no different. This is also a time for us(SWA) to thank our host city for all their support. Normally this means doing some type of community service project or passing out free tickets to locals. It is always such a fun time to hear what our Customer's have to say and see them get so excited. In San Diego we had sent a Facebook event out to the locals and announced on our Twitter site that we would be out giving free tickets away, and man did they follow! The second we hit downtown crowds were sworming and willing to do whatever it took to get these tickets...we had singing contest, dancing contests, SWA trivia contests, etc.

As much fun as it is spending time with our Customer's, its also a great time to get to know coworkers outside of the work environment. Our great partner, Sea World, hooked us up this year with a day in the park to ourselves. The best was the private Shamu show to end the night, pretty amazing! Here are some fun pictures of our trip.

About a week ago Southwest unveiled a new plane that will be in rotation for the next 60 days. Southwest partnered with Sports Illustrated to introduce the 2009 Sports Illustration swimsuit model, Bar Rafaeli, and to introduce New York to Southwest Airlines. For those of you who don't know, Southwest will begin flying into New York's LaGuardia Airport beginning this fall. Everyone knows New Yorkers are hard impress, but I think we succeeded with our new partnership.

Things got a little busy over the holidays and I forgot to post something pretty hilarious that we did at work. Do I have any Office fans out there? If so, did you see the Christmas episode where Jim wrapped Dwight's desk with wrapping paper?

Well after that episode aired, a couple of friends from work and I decided that this must be done. The only question was to whom and to what extent? So after talking for about 2 minutes, we quickly realized that one of our managers was leaving for a 3 day business trip and he is a big time prankster. It was perfect! So for 3 days during our lunch hour we wrapped. Here is what he had to come back to.

How do you sum up a whole year? I'm not sure that it is entirely possible, but here is a high level overview view of our year. 2008 was a great year for Michael and I, but I can't wait to see what 2009 will bring! If it continues the way it is going, it will be a fantastic year!

January

Michael and I started the new year some friends down at the Big D NYE party. Michael started his 2nd semester of med school and I was still working as Field Marketing Coordinator at SWA. This was a hard month to get back into a routine for us. We enjoyed to much time off during the our first "official" holidays together!

February

At the beginning of the month I was in Denver on business for a week. I'm pretty sure Michael got a lot of studying done while I was gone! :) We celebrating our first V-day as a married couple! Michael was super sweet and snuck away one Sat. and drove to Greenville to get me some of my favorite chocolate covered strawberries since I didn't get them this v-day. I love him!

March

Michael took his mid semester finals and did awesome as usual. We went to DisneyWorld for a week during "Spring Break" to celebrate my Dad's 49th birthday. We had so much fun!
April

We went to our first AVP Tournament together at the beginning of the month. At the end of the month I had a big event in San Antonio called Fiesta that SWA sponsors. This was our 3rd year going to this event and we got to take some friends from SA this year. We had such a great weekend hanging out with them and meeting their families.

May

I celebrated my 24th birthday! Michael finished his first year of medical school!!! And we celebrated our 1 year anniversary in LA!!! May was a very busy, but great month for us.

June

Michael started working in the ER at Parkland Hospital. He worked long hard hours, but loved it! I applied for a new job on SWA's Online Marketing team and got it!

July

We got to spend 4th of July with Michael's extended family in Boone, NC. We had a fabulous time with them. I started my new job!

August
Michael finished his last month at Parkland and started school at the end of the month. Before Michael started school, we took our first ever road trip to Gulf Shores, AL!

September
We spent Labor Day weekend with my Dad's side of the family in the Hill Country at the lake. It was so much fun and very relaxing. Michael officially started his 2nd year of medical school!

October

I got us and some friends into a free Dave Barnes concert! I became a guinea pig so my hubby could practice before actually doing anything to a real patient. :)

November

We celebrated Michael's 24th birthday in Chicago with friends! Michael and I went to Greenville and had Thanksgiving with our families. It was a short trip home, but so nice to spend time with everyone.

December

Michael wrapped up his first semester of 2nd year! We decided to not do big gifts for eachother and instead, take a trip to NYC! We came home on Christmas Eve and spent the rest of the week with our families.

Sorry, I just have to brag about my amazing hubby.... Michael ended his semester the day before we left for NYC with his last final of the semester, Pharmacology. Pharm is supposed to be the most difficult class because of all the different types of drugs/medications out there and trust me when I say that most of them you cannot pronounce.

Well Michael went it and took his final and was not very pleased when he came out. I believe his exact words were, "I don't want to talk about it, let's just have a good trip and not talk about school."That was really the last time we talked about it until he got his grades back today. My Smarty Pants of a husband made a 100 in his Pharm class! Not just the final, but the class. How is that possible? I couldn't even get a 100 in any of classes in high school! :) Hopefully our future children will be blessed with his brain, if not we can just blame their lack of interest for school and grades on me! lol

I am so incredibly proud of him and how focused he is with his studies. He does an amazing job balancing his school work with "our" time and I love him so much for that.

Thank you for all that you do baby! I love you more than you will ever know!

NYC at Christmas Time

This year Michael and I decided that we really would rather travel than get some random gift for each other, so we left the weekend before Christmas and headed to NYC! It was the best Christmas gift ever!!! We hit all the major touristy hot spots and enjoyed some good quality time together. We were only there for 3 days and man did we cover a LOT of ground. Here's an overview of our trip:

Day 1: Snowing and 28 degrees

We landed and took our first train ride into Penn Station, dropped our bags off at the hotel, and began our adventure in the city. We started off at Rockefeller Plaza, witnessed a proposal on the ice rink, took pictures with THE TREE, and walked through the NBC store. For lunch we decided to take Elf's advice and went to the original Ray's Pizza. It was fabulous!

After lunch we went to Time Square where we hit the M&M and Hershey stores, Toy's R Us, Good Morning America studios, and walked our way down to Herald Square to witness the madness that is Macy's. We shopped for a while, enjoyed the Christmas decorations, and then made our way to the Empire State Building. We managed to time it perfectly for an amazing sunset. Most of the day it had been overcast, but once we made it to the top the sun finally came out. We stayed up watching all the lights come on in the city for about an hour- really until we froze our butts off, and then headed on to Bubba Gump's for dinner. After dinner we went to see Spamalot the Musical. It was definitely different than any other musical I have ever seen, but it is the one Michael really wanted to see, so I caved. It was actually really funny and I enjoyed it!

Day 2: Sunny and 15 degrees with the wind chill at 5 degrees
Holy cow, I'm pretty sure I've never been that cold before in my life. We caught the subway that morning and headed to Tribeca to enjoy breakfast at my favorite place, Bubby's! Oh man was it tasty! We stayed inside as long as we could and then finally ventured out and walked to the World Trade Center site. It is amazing the progress they have made in the 2 years since I last visited. This was the first time Michael was able to see Ground Zero and walk through all the memorial sites. After walking around the memorial, we headed to Canal Street to do some shopping, and then onto Little Italy to have some lunch. After a fabulous lunch we walked up to NYU and "toured" the campus. We were freezing, so we decided to catch the subway up to Park Ave. and spend some time inside at FAO Schwarz. It was hilarious, Michael was so excited about everything in the store. You name it, he wanted it! I'm pretty sure I witnessed what it will be like if we have a little boy one day. (in many, many years) :) After we played and finally warmed up, we walked to Radio City and saw the Christmas Spectacular performed by the famous Rockettes. It was wonderful! I think I enjoyed it a little more than Michael did, seeing as he feel asleep, but I think he enjoyed the parts he saw.

Day 3: Sunny and 20 degrees

We packed all our bags up and left the hotel for a stroll in Central Park. The park was gorgeous! I've never seen the Central Park with that much snow on the ground and the sidewalks were pure ice, which made walking a little interesting. My sweet husband decided it would be a great idea to get a running start and just slide down the sidewalk, I'm so glad we made it home with no broken bones. I am always amazed how peaceful the park is and this time was no different. We walked around for about 2 1/2 hours just talking, taking pictures, and people watching. It was a great way to end our trip.

I realized today that I have not blogged since the very beginning of the month, which made me so sad because this is my absolute favorite time of year, plus I have tons to update all 3 of you who read this! :)

Let's see, where to start...since we returned to Dallas after Thanksgiving we have been to 12 Christmas parties(ridiculous, but so much fun) , decorated our home(Michael says it looks like Christmas threw up in our house, which I love), watched all our favorite Christmas movies twice, Michael is taking his last final for 2008 as we speak(YAY!), and we leave for NYC in ummm like 10 hours!!!
We are so excited to see the most beautiful city all decked out for the holidays! Hopefully when we get back, things will slow down and I can catch up on my blogging!

We had such an amazing time in Chicago! Yes, it was freezing cold, but it made it feel like the holidays. Our friends Denise and Caleb came with us and we had SO much fun! Here are lots pictures from our trip!

Sorry this post is a little delayed. Things have been crazy the last week, plus I wanted to be able to post pictures and the video of Halloween at Southwest Airlines. Last year I talked about the importance of Halloween at Southwest and this year was no difference, except that I participated in the skit.! The Marketing Dept's theme was SWAma Mia...all 70's and all Abba! It was awesome and we won 1st place!!! It finally happened...gas prices are under $2 in Dallas and I have a picture to prove it! I know that is ridiculously silly to take a picture at a gas station, but friends and family have been telling me for a couple of weeks that they found gas in their towns for as low as $1.62 and I have to admit that I was getting a little jealous. I know it's still not as cheap as some, but we are making progress!

7 Wonderful Years!

Today marks mine and Michael's 7 year dating anniversary. We haven't celebrated this anniversary since we got married, but I thought it definitely needed to be recognized. There are not many couples our age who have known each other for that long, much less dated! On Oct. 26, 2001 we had our first "official" date! We went to Homecoming together. Well, actually Michael played football so we met at my house after the game and had a fancy dinner consisting of Taco Bell with Mark and Paige Shepherd!

We have been together through just about every major milestone in each other's lives so far...High School Graduations, getting the college acceptance letters, the fun trials of having a long distance relationship during college, internships, College Graduations, my first "real" job, engagement, our first home, marriage, and now medical school!

It has been a fabulous 7 years together and I can't wait to share in many more milestones with my wonderful hubby! I love you baby!

So You Think You Can Dance

Last weekend my sister Christa and I went to see the live show of So You Think You Can Dance. I have fallen in love with this show! The tour was just as good as it was on tv and they of course did all my favorite dances. Above is one of them, but you can also go here and find my all time favorite dance! It was fantastic and highly recommend it if it comes near you.

Michael and I don't get too much time for tv, but we do love relaxing weekends where we can catch up on our DVR list from the previous weeks. We love Fall for many reasons, but probably the top 3 reasons are Football, College Football, and all our favorite shows are back on!
24- This is definitely our favorite show! I have said for a long time that our first born son is going to be named Jack Bauer and a lot of people think I'm kidding, but seriously watch the show and you will know why! :)
The Office- #2 on our list of favorite shows! Simply put...the most hilarious show I've ever watched. There is a group at my work that meet every Friday morning for breakfast and recap our favorite moments of Thursday nights episode!
Heroes- Michael and I bought the first season on dvd last year and we got hooked. Pretty creepy at times, but addicting. If you haven't watched it I do recommend it, but you might want to rent the first 2 seasons on dvd to understand everything.
Grey's Anatomy- I loved the first 2 seasons of Grey's, but I think this one might be cut this year. Michael has always hated it because of how unrealistic it is and totally not the "real" hospital world, but I got hooked early on. I will admit I am really disappointed in the last 2 seasons of Grey's...why must they keep dragging it out.? Seriously Meredith...make up your mind!!! Oh and don't get me started on the whole icicle incident with Christina!
NFL & College Football- this consumes most of our time!
Jon & Kate Plus Eight- Love it! I can watch this show all the time...never gets old to me. The kids are absolutely adorable and I love how organized Jon and Kate are. I don't necessarily always like the way Kate talks to Jon, but hey...the have 8 kids!
Lost- This is on the top of Michael's list. I watched the first season and loved it, but once they started adding people to the island I got bored with it and stopped watching. Once I got married, Michael caught me up on the previous seasons I missed and now it's back on my list. It is finally going places since they put a definite cut-off date.
The Hills- I got hooked Laguna Beach in college and of course had to follow LC when she got her own spin-off show. As Michael puts it every time I turn on this show..."you would never be friends with these people," but I just love their "drama"!
Fringe- This is a new show on Fox (I think) and it's made by the same guy who created Lost. I think JJ Abrams must be a pretty crazy man to come up with such creepy shows. Still new, but so far we like it!

Hopeless Cook

Are you a hopeless cook? Or is someone you know totally incompetent in the kitchen? Food Network is looking for the most disastrous cooks in the country to participate in a very different culinary competition show!

I'll be the first to admit that I am no cook, but I don't know that I would go as far as to call myself disastrous. Apparently, however, there are people in my inner circle who believe I am.(Christa, I'm looking at you!)
I have officially been nominated for the Food Network show Hopeless Cook.

For those of you who know my family, you know that my mother is "Martha Stewart". Growing up I showed no interest in learning how to cook. Why would I, my mother is amazing at it?! I just never cared to learn, I figured one day it would just come to me. Well, I'm still waiting for that day! In my defense, it's difficult for me to cook for my husband because he is a meat-eater and I'm not. It's very stressful trying to cook meat and not throw-up all over it at the same time. Also, have you seen what happens to a kitchen when you try to cook...its a disaster! I hate when anything is a mess, even if it's just for a little while. (I did get that gene from my mother!)

I figure one day, probably not in my near future, I will learn to cook. If not I'll just continue to make friends with people who love to cook! (Stacy, Britney, Denise, Brooke, Christa, and Mom I'm talking to ya'll!) I mean really, as much as they enjoy it, I would be a bad friend if I took that joy away from them! :)

I Hate Test Weeks!

This week has been a rough week in the Carter household. It's been an extremely busy week at work for me and Michael has his HUGE Block II test tomorrow, which is in Microbiology, Pharmacology, and Pathology. I always hate test weeks for my hubby, but this one has really not been fun! Please say a little prayer for him tomorrow.
He has been amazing studying this week, so I know he will do excellent, but every little thing helps!

I had another "You Know You Are Medical School Spouse" moment several times this week, well actually I learned this last year! I always try to help my hubby study during test weeks, plus it means I get to spend a little time with him! :) Well this week he gave me his book and asked me to quiz him on some of his terminology...so I grab the book, look down and honestly have NO idea how in the world to pronounce any word on the page.
Man does that make me feel stupid!!! :)

I've decided that I'm missing prime opportunities to give you a look into real life medical student ways, so I'm going to try and post once a week about being a medical student spouse. I can't promise I'll alwasy be that dedicated to it, but most of you ask what it's like to be married to a med student, so I will do my best to portray that to you.

As soon as people find out that Michael is in med school, they do 3 things....

1st: they generally think it's pretty cool and then they start to tell me or him about some symptons they've had lately and want a diagnosis. He's only in his 2nd year people! So funny!

2nd: they ask what's the grossest thing his scene? We proceed to tell them and we know we've gone to far when they are gagging! :)

3rd: they always have to through out some really high statisic of the divorce rate for doctors. Thank you, that really helps us out, really!

I honestly can't say I blame people for sharing their own opinions or perspectives, but a lot of times they don't know us, they don't know our marriage. I just have to realize that they honestly are probably trying to help!

Mamma Mia

My wonderful husband suprised me on Tuesday with tickets to see Mama Mia live at Bass Hall! As much as Michael hated seeing the movie, it was really sweet of him to even think to buy tickets and have to sit through it again. I highly recommend seeing it if you ever get the chance! I would say it is probably my favorite! By the end of the musical the whole audience was standing up singing and dancing along with the cast, so fun!

A couple of weeks ago Michael, myself and a couple of friends got to go see Dave Barnes here in Dallas. Michael and I got to go see him a couple of months ago and loved him live. If he comes close to your area, I highly recommend checking it out!

The best part of this concert was it was free, but there is a funny story to go with it! About 3 days before the concert I logged on to my Myspace account and saw a bulletin that Dave Barnes was coming to Dallas and giving a free concert at FBC Dowtown Dallas. I got so excited!!! I mean honestly, how cool am I...keeping up with my Myspace account and getting us into a free concert! :) Well, we show up to the concert and quickly realize we are by far the oldest people there by atleast 6-8 years. Yes...I got us in free to a concert for the middle school and high school youth group of FBC!!!!!! I'm pretty sure that is the moment that I felt too old to have a myspace.

It's official...Michael is now an MS2! I honestly can't believe that he has already started his 2nd year. He's been back in classes for 3 weeks now and man has it been crazy! Here is a picture of him on his first day of school!

When I was little my parents started the tradition that on our first day of school they made us our favorite dessert and got us a little present. Well I have carried the tradition onto Michael and as much as he makes fun of me for doing it, he loves it! Isn't his cake adorable! My friend Brooke made it!!!

I just realized I still haven't post about 2 fun events that Michael and I were able to do at the beginning of August. (better late than never, right!)

On August 1st, Michael, myself, my sister Christa, and my brother-in-law Taylor were able to go to the John Mayer/Colbie Caillat concert! It was absolutely amazing! I've seen John Mayer live 4 times and it is always awesome! Here are a couple of pictures from the concert:

On August 4th, Michael and I decided to take a quick vacation to Gulf Shores, AL before he started school again. We had a wonderful time doing absolutely nothing. Seriously...the hardest decision we made the whole time we were there was when to turn over and what we were going to eat for dinner! :)
We did have a couple of firsts on this trip(all for me):
-first road trip (10 hrs.)- hey I work for an airline!
-first time being stung by a jellyfish (twice)
-first redneck beach I've ever been to
-first time I've ever driven through the South
Unfortunately, I took hardly any pictures. I think I took a grand total of 4. This is something I know I must work on, but here are a few!

Michael and I met Langston and Britney Lee almost exactly a year ago at the medical school orientation dinner. We instantly became good friends and have really enjoyed getting to know them over the last year. This past Oct. the couple got engaged and immediately started planning for their big day!

Michael and I are headed out of town for a quick vacation before he starts school next Monday. (I can't believe the school year is already here!) I haven't and don't plan on ever venturing in Da Hood Sto, but it still makes me laugh. Just get ready we are going to Greenville this weekend, so there will be more where this came from!

So I'm a little late with the 4th of July post, but things have been a little crazy since we got back. Our trip to North Carolina was amazing! We had such a wonderful time with family and just enjoying the great outdoors. We could not have asked for better weather while we were there, so it made it really hard to come back to the Texas heat. I took a ton of pictures on this trip so I'm sorry for such a long post, but I just couldn't resist showing you how beautiful it was!

We stayed at Michael's uncle's home in Blowing Rock, NC which is located in the Appalachian Mountains. Check out the view below from his patio!

On Thursday, we went into town and just let the little kids enjoy the park and the "grown ups" enjoyed several hours of Ultimate Frisbee. We were so worn out afterwards, but it was such a blast! After frisbee Michael's dad decided it would be a great idea to hike back home. Not the smartest move we've ever made! :) It wasn't so bad in the beginning, but climbing the mountain to get to Wes's house was a killer. Below are some pictures of our hike.

On Friday, we woke up and drove an hr. into Virginia for a 17 mile bike ride. Can you believe I made it through 17 miles?! I will admit that most of it was down a mountain, but the last 7 miles were pretty brutal. I think this had to be our favorite event of our trip! I was so scared before the bike ride because it had been over 10 years since I was last on a bike, but luckily it came back pretty quickly!

The Virginia Creeper Trail used to be an old railroad track that ran through the mountains, but many years ago they transformed it to a great bike trail.

For those of you who don't know, here is a brief overview of Matt and why he is dancing....Matt Harding has been pretty internet famous for a few years. In ‘03 he quit his job and decided to travel for a while on the money he had saved. While out, a friend talked him into doing some dumb little dance that he would do while at work. Deciding it funny to themselves, he continued dancing for the camera in all of the other places he went. Once home, he edited and posted a video of his dancing around the world and it spread like wildfire.

Because the Internet is awesome and you can get sponsors for anything now, Stride Gum saw the video, contacted Matt and then funded another video (or two). If you’re following along, that means Matt gets paid to travel and dance.

Dr. Carter Returns to the ER

Yes, I'm the dorky wife who takes a picture of her husband on his first day of work...but doesn't he look so cute and official!?Michael just finished his first week working in the ER at Parkland Hospital..well technically he's been working for 2 weeks, but the first week was all training. He is loving the ER so far! He has seen so many "amazing" things already! (by amazing, I mean absolutely disgusting!) We have already had to have the talk about not discussing his work during dinner. :) He will be starting some night shifts this week, so I'll keep you up to date on how that works out!

(Just in case you don't understand the title...there was a Dr. Carter aka Noah Wyle who starred in the TV show ER. I knew he was always my favorite for a reason!)

1 Year Down....3 to Go!

Hallelujah! Michael is free at last...atleast until Tuesday! He just finished his last final for his first year of medical school and boy does it feel good. (for the both of us!) I am incredibly proud of him and ALL the hard work he put into this year!!!

He starts his "job" for the summer on Tuesday at Parkland. He is doing research in the Parkland Hospital ER related to low blood pressure. (it has a much fancier name than that, but I can't spell it and really can't remember it!) :) He is really excited about getting to spend a lot of time in the craziest hospital in Dallas. Quick side note...Parkland delivers the most babies per year in the US. His schedule should be a little interesting, but he is getting to spend quality time in the Emergency Room which should help him decide if ER is the career he wants to pursue.

I'm sure if you ever want to hear any off the wall or gory stories, he will have them! :)

Manic Month of May

May has always been a busy month for me and my family, but man when you add Michael's family into the mix, it is insane. So here is a quick overview all the celebrations for the month of May....

May 5th- My birthday of course! :)

May 12th- My parents just celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary! Congratulations, we love you and couldn't ask for a better example of what God intended marriage to be.

May 17th- my little sister Christa just turned 20! We love you Chris!

May 17th- My mother-in-law hit a big milestone, Marlen celebrated her 50th birthday! We hope you had a wonderful day! (I have some great pictures of her in her "old lady outfit", but I haven't had a chance to download them yet). Luckily her! :)
May17th- Rich and Marlen (Michael's parents) celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary! Michael and I count ourselves very lucky to have such great examples of lasting relationships!

May 26th- Our 1 year anniversary!!!! I can't believe it's almost here!

This is not including... graduations, weddings, and extended family's birthdays/anniversary's. As you can see May is an extremely busy month for us, but it is also one of most fun months of the year and we wouldn't have it any other way!

Holy cow...I'm 24 years old!!! How did this happen, I am almost in my middle twenties?! I can't believe it! I had an amazing birthday this year. Thank you to all the wonderful phone calls, text messages, voicemails, facebook messages, etc... keep them coming, because I'm pretty sure I will be celebrating throughout the month of May! My Dad always taught us to have a "birth month" not just a "birthday"! :)

I Hate Test Weeks

AVP Tournament

This past Sunday, Michael and I headed over to the Ballpark in Arlington to watch the Men's and Women's Finals of the AVP Championship (Pro Beach Volleyball). It was amazing!!! I had been to one match before while my family was vacationing in California and the second I heard they had a tour coming to Dallas I knew we had to go. I will be honest, I was a little hesitant taking Michael because I wasn't sure he would like it, but he actually got really into it! :)

The Happiest Place on Earth

We want to go back...Michael and I had a "magical" time at Disney World! We spent 5 days, saw all 4 parks, and it was even better than we imagined it would be. Our favorite park is still the classic Magic Kingdom..we managed to cover the entire park in one day! (I don't think my feet have forgiven me yet) It is amazing how quickly you can forget about the "real world" and relive your childhood. Honestly, the first day we were there we were the only adults there with no kids. It was hilarious seeing Michael and I wait in all those lines behind Princess Jasmine and Buzz Lightyear for every ride, but I think we really showed everyone up on the Tea Cup ride. We were the only adults on the ride and literally parents were video taping us and taking pictures because Michael had that tea cup spinning so quickly. It was awesome! (very proud moment in his life) On Sat. my family joined us and that just added even more fun memories. Dad's birthday was on Saturday and Goofy called to invite us to a "big suprise" dinner. The food was great, but the highlight of the evening was meeting all our favorite Winnie the Pooh characters and listening to my mom tell every single one of them that is was my dad's birthday! :) I could go on forever about this trip, but they say a picture is worth a thousand words so here you go...some of our favorite pictures. The Baylor Bears made it to the NCAA Tournament!

Michael and I were at Disney World when the teams were announced, but happened to catch it late Sunday night and Michael literally started jumping up and down in our hotel room when he heard the announcers say Baylor! I'm sure the people below us loved it, but hey it's not like it they make it every year. You should know that Baylor hasn't made it to the tournament in OVER 20 YEARS - so Michael has been REALLY anxious to see if they would make it!

After a ridiculously stressful day at work full of long meetings, all I want to do is come home and relax. Rarely do I ever make it home before 8 or 9 on week nights, so I decided I was really going to take advantage of tonight and get some good tv time in! So I came home, put my comfy clothes on and sat in front of the tv and watched my all time favorite show...Friends! Even though I can resite all the lines of each character (that's why my husband probably hates watching it with me) I still love it!

So, maybe we are just entering that time in life when everyone we know is either getting married or having babies. 2008 is going to be an extremely busy and expensive year for the Carter's! So far this year we have been invited to 13 weddings starting in April and ending in November. In the month of September alone we have 3 weddings!
What freaks me out even more is how many pregnant women I know. People at church, at work, and even some of the medical school wives are all due this year! Seriously, work has turned into a baby bump bonanza; I know 6 people pregnant, 3 of whom are having mulitples!!!!!!! I'm not drinking the water at Southwest and I might start wearing a mask to work just in case there is something in the air!

With gas prices soaring and having to pay for Medical School...I have had to find an alternate mode of transportation. Unfortuntely, Michael is too cheap to buy me a bike, so I've had to turn to my trusty legs! That's right, I, Lacey Kimble Carter, jog everywhere now...to work, to church, to the mall, and to Chipotle(although that might be a little counterproductive). Ok, so maybe that's a little fib, but I probably should start doing that soon cause I have made the decision that on June 29th I am running a HALF MARATHON!!! That's right start saying prayers for me now, cause I'm running 13.1 MILES!!!! Yes, I know what you are thinking...Lacey you aren't a runner, but don't worry I will be in 4 months.

Currently this is my life motto for running...."Pain is weakness leaving the body." Come June 30th, there won't be a trace of weakness left in me, assuming of course that I'm still alive!!!

Bride has wedding cake made into life-size model of herself! For one bride, her perfect wedding had to have that extra layer. So American Chidi Ogbuta had a life-size wedding cake made in her own image.
Standing over 5ft tall, the spectacular cake, made up of butterscotch and polymer clay, was an exact replica of the bride in her wedding dress.
The six-layered masterpiece was a dream come true for the Texan, and took pride of place when she re-newed her vows to her husband of ten years, Innocent.
"Growing up I have always wanted a doll made in my likeness," explained Chidi, 35-year-old mother of four.
"So, when we started planning for our church wedding I told my husband that I wanted a unique, personalised wedding - a wedding where my dream will come true.
"I told Innocent that I wanted a life-size cake made in my resemblance - as I would look on my wedding day. He gave his consent without reservations."
Initially Chidi wanted giant cakes made of both her and Innocent, 35, but the bakers, 'Absolutely Edible Cakes', didn't have enough time before the big day.
It took five weeks to make the cake of Chidi - with the cake itself butterscotch and the body, head and arms made from polymer clay - after she supplied them with photographs of herself wearing the dress.
Given its size, there was plenty to go round the guests at the ceremony last September.
"We had over 500 guests and even after we had dished it out there was still plenty left," recalls Chidi. "We brought the rest of it home and a week later it was all gone."

So the last couple of weekends I've gotten kind of lucky and spent some good quality time with my hubby! (med school and work seem to get in the way of that) Well what else do we do...catch up on some movies. Here are a couple that we've seen in the last 2 weeks. Happy 2008! Hope you all had a fun and safe New Years! Michael and I had a wonderful time at the Big D NYE Party on the Plaza! We had some good friends over and played games, listened to all the festivities from our balcony and eventually went down and joined the party in Victory Plaza. I am still amazed at how many people came out! Another thing that amazes me is how good the band was! How many bands do you know that can play Jesse's Girl and then follow it up with Justin Timberlake' s Bringing Sexy Back and nail both?! Well Top can.
